Number-Porting

Number Porting

Switching providers doesn’t mean losing your phone number. Number porting lets you keep it, ensuring continuity and convenience in Saudi Arabia’s telecommunications landscape.

Here’s what you need to know about eligibility, requirements, and the porting process.

Eligibility and Requirements

Number porting is available for both prepaid and postpaid customers, but certain conditions apply:

  • Account Status Your account must be active and in good standing. Postpaid users may need to fulfill contract obligations or settle early termination fees.

  • Plan Type Both prepaid and postpaid numbers are eligible, but verify with your provider for any specific terms.

  • Outstanding Bills Ensure all bills with your current provider are paid, as unpaid balances can halt the process.

  • Contract Completion If on a contract, you may need to complete the term or settle early termination fees.

  • Required Documentation You’ll need valid ID (passport or Iqama) and a completed porting request form to authorize the transfer.

Checking eligibility and meeting these conditions helps ensure a smooth porting process and avoid delays.

Porting Process and Timeline

The porting process typically takes 1–3 business days:

  • Brief Service Disruption There may be a short period of limited service during transfer. Plan accordingly if you rely on your phone for work or emergencies.

  • Notifications from Both Providers You’ll receive alerts from your old and new providers once porting is complete.

  • Device Restart Insert your new SIM card and restart your device to activate the new service.

Step-by-Step Guide to Switching Providers

  1. Request Porting Contact your new provider and fill out the porting form.

  2. Submit Documentation Provide ID (passport or Iqama) and account details to authorize the port.

  3. Activate New SIM Insert the new SIM and restart your device once porting is complete.

This straightforward process lets you keep your existing number when switching providers.

Potential Fees and Hidden Costs

Number porting is generally free, but there may be additional costs:

  • Administrative Fees Some providers charge a small fee for processing.

  • Bundled Services If you have bundled services (e.g. internet or TV), they may need to be settled before porting.

Check with your new provider to avoid unexpected fees.

Ensuring Continuous Service

If uninterrupted service is essential, ask your new provider for a temporary number to use during porting. This keeps you connected and prevents communication gaps.

By following these steps, you can smoothly transition to a new provider without losing your current number, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
